Milimani Environment and Land Court (ELC) Mediation Open Day at Mathari Primary School

The Hon. Chief Justice attended the Milimani Environment and Land Court (ELC) Mediation Open Day at Mathari Primary School, where she engaged with the local community.

During this event, we explored mediation as a key solution for resolving land and environmental disputes. This open day underscores the Judiciary’s dedication to a people-centred approach to justice, one that actively connects with communities to understand their needs, challenges, and aspirations.

The Hon. Chief Justice congratulated Honourable Justice Oscar Angote and Honourable Justice Fred Ochieng for spearheading this important and timely initiative.

With rapid urbanisation, population growth, environmental degradation, and the effects of climate change, disputes arise in many forms, ranging from inheritance and boundary conflicts to issues of eviction, land use, and ownership. It is, therefore, essential to embrace mediation as a peaceful and effective means of resolving such disputes. Mediation provides an alternative path to justice, one that goes beyond legal rights to restore relationships and address the root causes of conflict.
