Welcome to the Office of the Chief Justice and President of Supreme Court of Kenya

The Office of the Chief Justice (OCJ) is established under Article 161 of the Kenyan Constitution to render administrative, operational, and governance support to the Judiciary.

The mandate of the OCJ is to provide effective administrative and technical support to the Chief Justice as the Head of the Judiciary and as Head of the Supreme Court as well as to render administrative, operational and governance support to the Judiciary.
The Judiciary’s Vision of “Social transformation through Access to Justice” (STAJ); a 10-year transformative agenda is geared towards building an institution that is independent, efficient, accessible, responsive to the aspirations of Kenyans and a true guardian of the rule of law. STAJ adopts an “outward approach to justice” by creating an avenue for strengthening justice systems by putting people and their expectations  at the center of judicial and connected operations.

The Current Chief Justice and President of Supreme Court of Kenya

Lady Justice Martha Karambu Koome, Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya
Her Ladyship Martha K. Koome assumed office as Chief Justice and the President of the Supreme Court of Kenya on May 21, 2021.

Prior to her appointment as the 15th Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, she was a Senior Judge of the Court of Appeal. During her stint as an Appellate Judge, she headed the Criminal Division of the Court and in addition, chaired Committees which developed the Court of Appeal Practice Directions in Civil and Criminal Appeals as well as the Registry Manual that standardized the registry experience at the Court.
As a Court of Appeal Judge she served in Nairobi, Nyeri and Malindi. Justice Koome has also Served as a High Court Judge (2003 – 2011) as indicated below:

    1. Head of Land and Environment Division of the High Court in Nairobi
    2. Resident Judge, High Court in Nakuru & Kitale
    3. High Court in Nairobi (Commercial Division & Family Division)
