4th Women in Leadership and Governance Conference

4th Women in Leadership and Governance Conference

Hon. Chief Justice delivered closing remarks at the close of the 4th Women in Leadership and Governance Conference. It is important to acknowledge that the history of Kenya’s social, economic, and political evolution is intricately tied to the history of women’s contributions to transformative change.

This continues to the present times where many women leaders are driving systemic change in our country by championing policies and practices that transform our socio-economic, political and cultural landscape. This commitment to transformational leadership has ensured that women are not only participants in governance but also architects of a more democratic, just and inclusive society.

While we celebrate the milestones that the women of this country have realized over the years, we must remain vigilant about the barriers that persist. Patriarchal norms, limited access to resources, and deeply entrenched gender biases continue to hinder many capable women from realizing their full potential.

The political and corporate landscapes remain among the most challenging arenas for women leaders. Yet, women have demonstrated resilience, breaking glass ceilings and transforming these spaces into more equitable environments. We must dismantle systemic barriers by promoting diversity and inclusion. Mentorship programmes, leadership training, and deliberate policies to ensure that the workplace is accommodating and supportive of women to thrive and realise their potential are essential steps in this direction.
