State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice Report for the FY 2023/24

Launched the State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice Report for the FY 2023/24. The last financial year saw substantial improvements in our performance and service delivery. Our Case Clearance Rate reached an impressive 99% with 516,121 cases filed compared to 509,664 cases resolved.
Furthermore, we recorded a marked reduction in pending cases, which dropped by 2.16% from 649,342 cases to Six hundred and thirty-five thousand, two hundred and sixty-two cases 635,262 cases. This decrease in pending cases is a testament to our commitment to tackling case backlog and ensuring timely resolution of disputes.
Notably, our case backlog, meaning cases that have been in the court system for more than one year, reduced by 10%, with the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC), Environment and Land Court (ELC), Tribunals, and Kadhis’ Courts leading the way in backlog reduction by 37%, 20%, 29%, and 82%, respectively. The improvement in case clearance and backlog reduction translates to a more responsive and efficient justice system. Kenyans are increasingly assured of prompt dispute resolution, evidence that our initiatives to ensure the efficiency of the justice system are yielding positive results.
