National Council on the Administration of Justice’s ‘Strategic Guiding Framework for Greening Kenya’s Justice System’
The Hon. Chief Justice Launched the National Council on the Administration of Justice’s ‘Strategic Guiding Framework for Greening Kenya’s Justice System’ through which agencies and stakeholders in the justice sector are coming together to embark on the transformative journey of greening Kenya’s Justice System.
Through this Guiding Framework, the justice sector is sending out a message that the quest for justice is intertwined and inseparable from environmental sustainability. We are acknowledging that the justice sector has a role in taking adaptation and mitigation measures to counter the adverse impacts of climate change.
Going forward, the agencies and stakeholders in the Kenyan justice sector have made a commitment to take into account the fact that every decision we make, every policy we implement, and every case we adjudicate has the potential to shape Kenya’s environmental landscape.
The NCAJ is committed to pursue civil and criminal justice reforms that support green justice, ensuring our laws and legal practices actively promote environmental sustainability. This covers upscaling green investigations and arrests, enhancing green prosecution, institutionalizing environmental safeguards to resolve cases within our courts, greening our sentencing practices, greening correctional services, promoting green legal empowerment, and embedding a human rights approach in each greening element.
